Day 19
Wow.....after more than 2.5 years of being involved in organising this trip today is the last day of our tour before we hand over to the centenary rally team when we reach Albury.
Although we have a long way to go today, Noeline has organised
a very special treat for the group before we leave Tumut today. We are under strict instruction to be breakfasted, packed up and checked out by 9:15 am, so we had a fairly leisurely
breakfast as we had packed up most of our luggage last night. The morning was sunny and bright with a little mist across the paddocks.
Our surprise stop this morning was just 10 minutes away at Stuart and Sons. A piano manufacturer of considerable note previously located in Newcastle and now in Tumut. They manufacture high quality
pianos and built the first 108 key piano back in 2018 for Beleura House (
https://www.stuartandsons.com/). They
also produced the first 102 key piano and have many other piano achievements to their
name. Wayne Stuart was very entertaining in his presentation on the history of
piano production in Australia and in particular the Stuart pianos.

A pair of Stuart and Sons Piano's, a rare treat |
He then surprised us even
more as he had arranged for a husband and wife team of world reknowned concert pianists
to
travel from Canberra to put on a short concert for us, playing together
on one
piano and then in the more traditional form on two pianos. Pianists Dr
Edward Neeman and Dr Stephanie Neeman played for us and we could have spent
all day enjoying this amazing performance but unfortunately we had some
miles to go.
|
A rare treat - entertainment by Edward and Stephanie Neeman |
|
Amazing rapport between these incredible performers added to the presentation |
|
Pianists come from all over the world for the opportunity to play one of these unique instruments, Edward and Stephanie travelled from Canberra this morning for the opportunity to play these instruments. |

Inside the instrument under construction. |
|
Alvis attendees listen intently to Wayne, this instrument was in for restoration after many years in a university |

Alvii parked outside in the sunshine. |
|
A chance for a Group photo. |
|
Many thanks to Wayne (Middle) and his family for their time |
|
Back on the road |
|
Bob and Leslie enjoy the sweeping roads near Rosewood |
A delightful drive took us through Rosewood to the Pioneer
Women’s hut in Glenroy for lunch. The route notes where a bit ambiguous but
everyone arrived eventually.

Bob and Denise, 12/50 |
|
We all eventually arrive for lunch. |
|
A conversation in the shade before getting back on the road |
|
Alan and Noeline leave Glenroy after seeking out petrol. |
|
Fabulous sunshine and picturesque scenery.... |
|
Wide quite roads..... |
|
Bob and Lesley 12/50, Margaret and John Alvis (mini) and Alan and Noeline 12/50 motor along. |
We continued south to the border,
skirting Lake Hume and following the Murray River into Albury. Someone had changed
some route numbers and moved the Weir adding a little to the confusion but
again everyone found their way eventually.
|
The receding water line on Lake Hume is clearly evident and a large number of dead gums silhouetted. |
|
Our tour group press on to Albury... |
|
The Hume dam has hardly any water |
|
Dappled light splashes across 12/50 |
|
So near Albury...the end is near... |
