Day 18
It was a leisurely start to the day. It was quite warm through the night which was a contrast to Canberra. After breakfast we headed off for our first stop.......the broom factory!!
A quick check of the Speed 20/ 25 engine room....fortunately its still there!! |
TA14 begins a very tricky backward parking manoeuvre outside the broom factory |
The
factory has been making millet brooms since the 1940’s and once had 15
employees. There are now two people running the business and sell their stock
as soon quickly as they can make it. They gave us an excellent talk and demonstration
on how to produce a millet broom and although they have to import their millet,
they still produce a sort after product. Although unexpected, they sold most of
their current stock to the Alvis visitors (the sales where aided by Maritta and
I “volunteering” to transport them back to Melbourne (or Albury in 1 case) in
the back of the Navara (the Alvis tender vehicle did come in useful eventually).
