Day 17 5/4/19 Canberra to Tumut

Day 17

Today we leave Canberra and head for Tumut.  Today was overcast but no rain.  A short drive from Canberra found us in Cooma and a visit to the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Discovery Centre.

The country not far from Canberra is most picturesque.

Impressive cloud formation over the nearby hills.

Unusual farm sculpture appears just over the hill??

This is an excellent display which explains both the history of the scheme, how it was built, and how it works. There are many models and audio visual displays to explain what is happening in the scheme and how much power is being produced...live.

These are just the best motoring roads.

As above
After a short visit it was off to Adaminaby for lunch.

And again.

And again.

Alan and Noeline managed to miss Adaminaby completely (it is a very small town!!) but soon realised their error and came back.

Lunch in the park at Adaminaby
The water level in the rivers and lakes in the area is very low .... so some rallyists took the opportunity to visit the old town which was relocated  when Lake Eucumbene was formed.

Water level is so low the old Adaminaby Township is visible
Andrew and Frances on a mission!

From here it was a delightful and picturesque drive across the high plains via Kiandra to Tumut. Bob and Lesley decided to be adventurous and tackle the 6km of gravel road to Yarangabilly Caves for a quick swim in the thermal Spa.

Black Perry Lookout, .... its a bit difficult to show the vastness of the forest

A Siddley arrives at the lookout.

Blowering Dam is very low, no speed records today.

John and Margaret sit behind the 12/50.

Arriving in Tumut

Judy and Trevor arrived first.
