Day 16: 4/4/19: Around Canberra

Day 16

Last night we had 2 new couples join the group, Bob and Denise plus Sally and Norman both from Sydney.    Frances made sure they had their photos taken early this morning so we could get them printed today.  Dale and I wondered down to Kingston Mall again for breakfast and the morning was a little foggy but it didn't take long for it to lift.

Pat and Michael's 12/50 in the morning sunshine.
Maritta and I went off to do some organiser duties, including collecting Mike’s camera which he had left on the bus we used to get to the Brewery a couple of days before.  Fortunately they found it.

Once we got back we joined Ernest and Julia in the 19.82 Silver Eagle for a delightful afternoon starting with a tour of the Arboretum. It has a long way to go (given the trees are quite small) but has great potential.  Having three navigators and one driver in the car made for some interesting decisions but we eventually found our way.  (Well done Julia).

The Bonsai collection was very impressive and makes the arboretum well worth visiting even though it is in its formative years.  We will need to come back in about 25 years for the 125th Anniversary of Alvis.

(A little hard to see) River Red Gum, 1989

The view back across Canberra is stunning.

Julia and Maritta in the veggie garden.

There was a frog but we couldn't find it...we could certainly hear it.

The Labrynth

Excellent view of Canberra from the Arboretum

After a bit of gentle ribbing about not washing the car (who washes a car when on a Rally), Mike is now taking the time to polish the grease nipples..putting us all to shame.

Leaving the Arboretum we headed off to visit a local MG enthusiast, Malcolm, who owns a unique MG SA Airline Coupe as well as a Tickford SA and a K3 “look alike” (his words) based on a TB MG.A very interesting visit.

The adventurous drive took us back to the Motel for Pre-Dinner drinks around the pool before an excellent dinner at Pomegranate.
