Day 22
We cannot believe our luck....yet another lovely sunny morning. Today Alan and Noeline invited us to travel with them in the back of a 12/50 Tourer This is an experience that is quite unique or traveling in the back of any vintage tourer for
that matter, is not for the faint hearted. From our point of view we accepted that being in any
Alvis is a much better experience than being cocooned in a modern.
Due to the number of people we couldn’t all visit some of
the attractions at the same time so half went clockwise and half went
anti-clockwise, meeting in Bright for lunch.

Fabulous touring weather... |
It was beautiful day although a bit cold at first, Maritta
was very glad that Mike had returned my driving gloves this morning so she could keep
her hands warm. The drive via the Kiewa valley was spectacular.
Our first stop, the magnificent collection of Stoewer’s, and
other great machines, at the private museum of John Stanley just outside Mt Beauty.
This is an incredible collection of a very rare marque which for many was almost
unheard of due to the location of its factory in Stetin, Poland. Due to the
dedication of a lone enthusiast who originally worked at the factory, much of
its history was saved and passed on to John. An archive has now been setup in
Wald-Michelbach, Germany, to which John has been able to provide so much material
and the museum has reciprocated.

Alvii in the Kiewa valley |
|
A light "dusting" of smoke across the valley as we advised that there are controlled burns occurring in the area. |
Next the steep climb over Tawonga Gap and then down into the
Ovens Valley and into Bright for a short display and lunch at the Bright Brewery.
|
Beautiful vistas around every turn. |

Alan overtakes Don's 12/50 |
From lunch we travelled via Myrtleford to Beechworth where
we stopped, along with a number of others for afternoon tea. Having visited
Beechworth many times we did not linger for long although there is a lot to see
and many other Alvisti spent some time in this historic city.
|
Maritta isn't used to a car with doors and the 12/50 rear doors are more decorative than functional. |
Then it was back on the road again for the trip back to the
Motel. On the menu is Wood Fired Pizza in the park for dinner tonight.
|
Planned burn near Yackandandah fills the sky with smoke |

Speed 25 appears behind us |
